The Tottenham Development Group in conjunction with Elders Ltd will be holding an Agricultural Exhibition on Friday 23rd March 2007 at the Tottenham Race Course. The day will start at 9am and will run until 4pm. The local CWA will be running a BBQ lunch.
This day aims to offer the opportunity to all district residents and businesses to meet with the experts and discuss the latest developments in farming practices and conservation issues in a family friendly environment.
Some of the attendees at the Rural Field Day include:
- Trangie Agricultural Research Centre (NSW Department of Primary Industries) presenting all their latest research in animal husbandry, genetics and conservation farming practices.
- Central West Catchment Management Authority discussing their role and the opportunitiesthey offer the farming community.
- Grazing Management Systems presenting and discussing the ecological benefits of Old Man Saltbush.
- Central West Farming Systems (CWFS).
- Regional Sheep and Cattle Studs.
- Agricultural and communication suppliers.
- Plant nurseries.
The Field Day presents an opportunity to alleviate the considerable strain resulting from the ongoing drought by providing access to support services. Therefore the local Community Health Officer is organising an information stand on many relevant health issues in this time of drought, including depression and mental health. The Regional Drought Support Worker will also be on hand to provide advcie and assistance.
The Field Day also aims to be a family friendly event that encourages optimism and lifts flagging spirits in this time of drought. Sam Bailey (sponsored by DPI) will be a guest speaker (quadriplegic farmer/author) and will relate his experiences. Additionally there will be a bush poet, wood chopping demonstration, antique vehicles and various other community activities and stalls. There will be activities for the children as well as adults.
